I founded the amber oak furniture co. with a particular vision to retail furniture that is not only superior in quality and design, but sensitive for the environment too . Various ranges show respect for people and nature, so you can relax knowing that your furniture has been responsibly made.

These ranges can be identified by the FSC symbol next to the suppliers name under brand

Few of us would willingly want to engage in practices that are not eco-friendly. I’ve constantly been seeking supplier's that have a minimal impact on the environment. I want my company to express a sense of responsibility to something beyond simply suppyling the best quality furniture at the lowest price possible.

I am committed to environmental sustainable forestry management. The philosophy I practice now involves being part of, and sourcing materials from reputable dealers (Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited) and increasingly from the environment in which I live.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The FSC is an international not-for-profit organization founded in 1993 by environmental groups such as Greenpeace, The Sierra Club and World Wildlife Fund.

Its mandate is to protect the world’s forests through globally recognized principles of responsible forest stewardship. This is supported by means of independent third-party audits and chain-of-custody documentation to verify the authenticity of sustainable wood claims.

FSC is the only certified wood that is accepted under the U.S. Green Building Council’s stringent LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program. FSC certified wood is also the only certified wood accepted in the bid specifications of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Part of what makes the FSC unique from all other forest certification systems in the world is the way in which it embraces the rights of aboriginal peoples to utilise the forest for their culture, livelihood and spirituality. Visit the FSC website to learn more.

Amber oak sells primarily solid wood furniture, sourced from around the globe. The increasingly international nature of our industry makes it hard for customers to easily find out information about the furniture that is available to them

We therefore intend to launch our own Environmental grading. It collects together information in three main categories (wood source and sustainability, workshop practices and "furniture miles"), before summarising with a mark out of 10 . It is our intention that this project will have three effects. Firstly it will enable the consumer to make an informed judgement on the furniture that is available to them. Secondly it will help our shop work towards its goal of selling only environmentally friendly furniture. Finally it will put pressure on suppliers to change and improve their methods of production.
